October 2020 is National Book Month. We reached out to EL Educators in the community for book recommendations that promote family engagement.

Silvana Mazo, school librarian at Frazier Elementary School in Greensboro and finishing an add-on Dual Language certification, recommended “My Abeulita,” by Tony Johnston for promoting family engagement in EL education. They chose this book because “My passion and focus has always been multicultural literature and believe books should always reflect the population of the community. Parents and educators as partners can prepare their children to be tolerant, lifelong learners and readers by providing resources that embrace all cultures.”
